A stable hot and dry pattern through the week
Highs will sit around 90 for the rest of the week, give or take a few degrees. Normal this time of year is the mid 80s, so we’ll stay a couple degrees above normal, which is hot, but not as hot as we’ve been. Nighttime lows will be in the 50s. Clouds will be variable this week, scattered about.
Weekend storms have moved on and we have drier air moving into our region. Today and tomorrow will be breezy, gusts about 20-25mph. All these in conjunction with above normal, hot temperatures, will raise some concern for fire danger for the next couple days, especially with some of the newer fires that sparked from the storms this last weekend.
The Elk Lane Fire to the north and west of Madras exploded yesterday. At the start of the day, the fire was at 300 acres and has now jumped to 3,500 within a day. The weather conditions today will be favorable for potential fire growth.
The week looks pretty mild and consistent, as far as weather goes. The smoke and fires will continue to stay at the center of attention. Air quality proceeds to be affected by the wildfires. Areas should mostly stay around the “slightly unhealthy” level. Madras will be dealing with more smoke today from the Elk Lane fire burning just a few miles outside the city.
As always, practice fire safety, wildfires are preventable.
Have a great Tuesday.
