Poor air quality remains, temperatures remain above normal
The smoke is continuing to be a concern in the region as the area is effectively surrounded by wildfires. Each shift in the wind inevitably taps into one of the many wildfires in the region. The air quality is poor through the region and there seems to be little improvement expected.
The area will be in the 90s for a couple more days but the trend to a cooler period begins over the weekend. The cloud cover and smoke today was slightly helpful in keep the temps down, but we still will manage many 90° numbers today.
The chance for a rogue storm is very low, but not zero today so our attention to the skies still needs to be sharp. Any storms that do develop will be “pop and drop” type storms that will generate some gusty winds and dry lightning. Although few and far between, if at all, they have the potential to be detrimental to the firefighting efforts.
Storms are still be discussed for Friday, but once again they are not likely. Next week the area will be much cooler, relative to where we have been, with highs in the low 80s. Expect to see a lot of sunshine and some breezy conditions Monday and Tuesday.
Each Thursday the Drought Monitor gets released, data is collected from Tuesday to Tuesday, but the results today are similar to last week. Mostly Moderate Drought conditions exist in the region. The fire danger is very high. Of note, these figures are taken over a 30 to 60 day segment of time and may not accurately reflect the more recent picture of our dry pattern of late.
