Redmond High to host Oregon Welding League’s first event of 2024-25 season
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Redmond High School is set to host the first event of the 2024/2025 Oregon Welding League season on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This event will bring together approximately 48 student competitors from six schools across the state to showcase their skills in one of Oregon’s most anticipated welding competitions.
The event will feature individual competitors battling in a rigorous series of tests that adhere to the latest American Welding Society (AWS) standards. Competitors will navigate a variety of welding processes and complete complex tasks across multiple stations. The competition will offer categories for Advanced and Intermediate welders, ensuring that students with different experience levels can participate.
In the General Welding competition (Team of 1), participants will be tasked with a variety of challenges, including:
â—Ź Measuring weld replicas with precision using weld measuring gauges.
â—Ź Laying out a plate and cutting holes with oxy-acetylene equipment, with accuracy and quality being key.
â—Ź Performing gas metal arc welding (GMAW) on steel, making welds in various positions using short circuiting transfers.
â—Ź Completing flux cored arc welding (FCAW) with shielding gas, as well as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) using combination machines to handle diverse welding currents.
â—Ź Executing steel and aluminum projects in various positions using a range of filler metals.
The competition features three levels: Advanced (GMAW, SMAW, GTAW), Intermediate (GMAW, SMAW), and beginner-level tasks, allowing welders at all stages of development to demonstrate their talent and growth.
Thanks to the generous support of event sponsors, including BASX as the primary sponsor, and Nosler, Mill Power, and Norco providing additional prizes, students have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized awards and prizes for their efforts.
The 2024/2025 Oregon Welding League aims to not only foster technical expertise but also to build career readiness and industry connections for students passionate about welding and metalworking.
The event is open to the public, and we encourage community members to attend and witness the future of Oregon’s welding industry in action.
