PORTLAND, Ore. (KGW/KTVZ) — Multiple doors and windows were broken by rocks at the Multnomah County elections office in Southeast Portland early Monday morning, officials confirmed.

"Someone threw rocks through most of the front windows in the front office of the Elections building and one window of the sorting room," Tim Scott, director of Multnomah County Elections, wrote in an email.

Mike Benner, public information manager for the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), said about two dozen windows and two doors were broken, and the building was also tagged with graffiti.

Scott said it happened around 2 a.m. and added that there doesn't seem to be any damage to the inside of the building or their equipment. Nobody was inside the building at the time, Scott added.

The county's security operations staff is coordinating with Portland police about the incident. Benner said the suspects had left before officers arrived.

A contractor was on site later Monday morning boarding up the windows and cleaning up glass.

The building is closed Monday because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. Monday is also Inauguration Day, with Donald Trump being sworn in as the 47th president.
