Cold, wintry pattern continues this week

The groundhog saw his shadow which means six more weeks of winter! Well, at least one more week of winter weather for us. Highs will hover in the 30s all week throughout Central Oregon while lows will mostly be in the teens and singles, with a few areas staying in the 20s at times. Temperatures are around 8-10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

A low pressure system is currently hovering over the Gulf of Alaska. It will continue to spin there for a few days, helping to funnel in moisture and continue to bring chances for winter weather throughout the week.

Today, snow will fall steadily in the Ochoco-John Day highlands and portions of southeast Central Oregon. There is a Winter Weather Advisory out for these areas until early tomorrow morning due to the heavy snow expected and travel impacts. Between 2-5” is expected in these areas today. This evening, areas along 97 will have a better chance at seeing some snow.

There are a few chances throughout this week for some snow, but chances slim down by Wednesday and we should be dry again by the weekend.

Have a good day today. Happy Monday.
