COCC’s Preview Day gives local high schoolers a taste of college life
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — High schoolers from all across Oregon got a look at their futures Friday during Preview Day at Central Oregon Community College.
The event brought in high school students not just from Central Oregon but all over the eastern side of the state.
It was a day when they could meet professors and explore ideas for life after high school. While COCC offers an experience similar to traditional four year colleges, it also offers many other paths students are excited about.
Audrey Segura told KTVZ News, "I want to be a pediatric nurse, but this has helped, because I know that COCC has a really good nursing program. So that's why I've been interested in it, and that's why I came on the tour."
Visiting from Madras, Itile Medrano shared his experience: "We're doing the like IVs like how to learn the IVs and stuff like the medicine." When asked about the program, he added, "This makes me hopeful. I want to go to COCC."
Jessie Walker recommend the trip for next years batch of students, saying "I think I really enjoyed this tour and I think that next year people should experience it and come and go to it because it's just a great experience."
Two of the most popular programs high schoolers were interested in were healthcare and culinary arts. Many of the sessions were hands on, giving students a chance to try out the tools they'd use in their studies. The program encourages students to consider what works best for them, be it four year college, community college, or just taking your first year of college at COCC.
