(Update: adding video from the scene, interviews with a downtown Madras worker, and business owner).

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – Madras police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one person injured Saturday, and two businesses badly damaged from bullets.

KTVZ News visited the scene Monday and spoke with the two business owners who had their windows shattered from the shooting who declined to go on-camera but did say they are pushing through.

One downtown Madras worker told us, she was not surprised by the shooting, "It doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately, it's been really active lately. Yeah, so I just. I see a lot happen down the street," Ariana Ramos said.

Another business owner we spoke too also felt the same way, "Its been an increase in lack of discipline, lack of morality, lack of respect for the individual. And I think that's going up and I think it's increasing in our society daily," added downtown Madras business owner Daniel Crowley.

According to Frontier 911 dispatchers, officers were called to a business in the 100 block of South 5th Street around 2:36 a.m. after a caller reported hearing several gunshots in the area. A short time later, officers were also dispatched to St. Charles Madras hospital on a report of a gunshot victim.

The victim, identified as a 38-year-old Madras resident, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police have not released the person’s condition.

Based on information from the caller, officers searched the area surrounding the reported gunfire location and responded to the hospital simultaneously.

The Madras Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Police Department and Oregon State Police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Madras Police Detective Ryan Kathrein at 541-475-2424 or Frontier Regional Dispatch at 541-384-2080.

The investigation remains ongoing.
