Rep. Bynum Responds to Iranian Attack on U.S. Base in Qatar

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTVZ) — U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum, D-Ore., issued a statement Monday following Iranian strikes on an American air base in Qatar, expressing gratitude that no American lives were lost and voicing concern over the prospect of deeper U.S. military involvement in the Middle East.
“I’m thankful that no American lives were lost today as a result of these attacks,” Bynum said. “While we must ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon, I strongly oppose another forever war in the Middle East.”
The attack comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Details on the scope of the damage or potential responses from the U.S. military remain limited.
Bynum, who represents Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, called on the Trump administration to outline a clear exit strategy and to avoid sending more American troops to the region.
“We can defend our interests and our allies in the Middle East without putting our service members in danger,” she said.

While we must ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon, I strongly oppose another forever war in the Middle East. That’s why I’m calling on the Trump Administration to provide a clear and concrete exit plan and for a commitment that we won’t see American troops deployed.
