Hot temperatures and isolated dry thunderstorms are creating high fire danger today

We’ve issued a Local Alert Weather Day due to the high fire danger this afternoon. Hot and dry surface conditions and the chance for dry thunderstorms this afternoon are not a good combination for us here in Central Oregon this time of year.

Storms will impact southern Deschutes and Crook county, and surrounding areas.
Dry lightning produced by storms and strong, gusty outflow winds near storms could ignite fires and cause rapid fire growth. Keep an eye out for any potential new fires and remember to proactive fire safety today. A Red Flag Warning is active from 2-11pm today for nearly all of Central Oregon.

Temperatures are hot again today, reaching the low to mid 90s. Highs will drop about 10 degrees tomorrow and drop to near normal by Thursday. Plan for highs in the 80s for the remainder of the work week. The 90s will return this weekend.
Have a happy Tuesday and stay safe this afternoon.
