Hot and dry with a few isolated storms late in the afternoon
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Yellow Local Alert Day is in effect today until sunset as the region is under a Red Flag Warning for hot and dry air along with a very slight chance for an isolated dry thunderstorm.

The storms that produce dry lightning often have some rain that does not make it to the ground, evaporating in the dry air. This sometimes generates outflow winds that may fan any existing fire or perk up one that is slumbering just beneath the surface. The isolated nature of the storms will not have any beneficial rain for the region, only issues with fire starts. Obey all burn bans and use common sense when out and about as far as cigarette and cigar butts. Lawn tools and machines may spark up if the rotors come in contact with rocks, so stay alert when outside working. The Storm Prediction Center has the region in the "General Risk for Thunderstorms" today, not severe, and mainly dry.

Speaking of outside, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks. Highs today will be in the upper 90s with dry air.
Wednesday will see temperatures slightly lower, still in the middle 80s, but not the 90s. A weak cold front will begin to cross the Beaver State Wednesday with little to no moisture to work. The front passes through by Thursday morning and we will be back in the “normal” range with respect to temperatures as highs will be in the low 80s.
The region begins to heat up again on Friday as we start to feel the effects of an area of high pressure over the Four Corners region and a ridge developing off the coast. Highs will be in the 90s over the weekend and should repeat that through at least next Tuesday.
Please stay safe and have fun.
