Hot pattern returns, warm pattern this weekend

The mercury in the thermometer is expected to hit the low 90s today and Thursday, which is about 4 or 5 degrees above normal. This late July pattern is close to normal, so we need to be ready for the heat. Stay hydrated and out of the sun as much as you can and limit strenuous activity.  If you are required to work outside, take frequent breaks and stay safe.

South of the Tri-Counties Thursday a cluster of storms is forecast to develop in Northern California and Southern Oregon. These storms are expected to be very electric and a Red Flag Warning has been issued for Lake, Harney, Klamath Counties. The storms will stay south, but we may feel some outflow winds from the cells in central Klamath and Lake Counties late in the day. A rogue storm may move north, but nothing widespread is expected in our Tri-Counties.

Heading into the weekend the temperatures drop a couple of degrees, only topping out on the middle and upper 80s.  There is going to be some afternoon clouds developing in the heat of the day, and a spot storm can not be ruled out. This is a typical summer pattern as “pop and drop” storms develop quickly and end quickly. A good idea is to keep an eye to the sky and if you see storm clouds developing, or hear the rumble of thunder, get to a safe place.

Next week the 90s return and the chance for isolated storms is on the table.  Wednesday may be the more active day as far as storms go, but still only scattered storms, nothing widespread.
