Tracking the potential for thunderstorms all week

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

There is a high pressure ridge to the southeast, building into our region. This pattern puts us under a south-southwesterly flow where moisture from the south can move into the region. This is setting up an unstable pattern, and a very typical pattern that we experience in the summer. This is the perfect situation for thunderstorm development and increased fire danger.

All the atmosphere really needs is a little “umph” in the afternoon for storms to get going. That is either fast daytime heating, topography, or a disturbance to get that air rising quickly to produce a thunderstorm.

Wednesday and Thursday afternoon look like the most impactful days. Because of this, we’ve issued Local Alert Weather Days for both days. With that being said, there are thunderstorm chances every single day, so make sure you’re staying weather aware and prepared throughout the week. But, storms have better chances for development mid week and could become more widespread Thursday so those are the days you’ll want to pay closest attention to.

Keep an eye out for any potential fires.

Highs will range from the mid 80s to low 90s all week. Quiet and sensible weather will return this weekend.

Happy Monday! Have a great day and be safe.
