Police: Bend man arrested after Camaro crash, firearm found and home break-in

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A 20-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after police said he crashed a Chevrolet Camaro into a light pole and fence, ran away from the scene and later entered a nearby home.

Bend Police responded around 4:59 a.m. Sunday to a report of a crash near NW 12th Street and Newport Avenue. Officers found a dark-colored Camaro that had struck a light pole and a fence. Witnesses told police the driver and at least one passenger ran from the scene.

One passenger, a 21-year-old Bend resident, was taken to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries, police said.

Witnesses also reported that one of the people leaving the crash dropped a bag. Officers later found a bag matching the description nearby, with a loaded firearm.

While officers were still at the crash scene around 6:36 a.m., a nearby resident in the 1500 block of NW 10th Street reported a man had entered her home through a back sliding door and initially refused to leave. Responding officers found the suspect, identified as Diego Rojo, 20, in an alley near the home.

Rojo was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on multiple charges related to the crash and the break-in.
