Summit football stands one win away from the 5A crown
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- The Summit Storm enter championship week with a clear sense of purpose. After months of offseason work and carrying the memory of last year’s ending in the quarterfinals, quarterback and IMC Offensive Player of the Year Andrew Guthrie steps into Friday with the feeling that everything they’ve done has led to this moment.
On the offensive line, Kristjan Burke remains focused on the goal to bring home a state title. The Storm now sit one win away from an undefeated season, and their confidence stems from every unit on the field. Running back Jude Anderson knows the offense must come out sharp, locked in on assignments, and ready to attack from the opening whistle.
Despite a few slower offensive performances this postseason, the team remains composed. Senior Connor Conneely believes success will come from simple execution: every player doing their job, nothing more, nothing less.
On the defensive side, IMC Defensive Player of the Year Dylan Hughes embraces the challenge of facing Silverton’s explosive offense. The Storm defense plans to rely on resilience and the mentality that has made them one of the toughest units in 5A all season.
Head coach Corben Hyatt, who has led Summit to two state titles during his tenure, refuses to let the injuries in his knee keep him away from the sideline. Even after being advised to coach from the press box, he’s determined to be with his team on the field for the biggest game of the year.
Everything now funnels into 48 minutes under the brightest lights of the season. No. 1 vs. No. 2. Summit vs. Silverton. Only one program will leave Hillsboro Stadium as the kings of 5A.
For Summit’s seniors, this is the culmination of their final season. One last chance to leave with a championship, max out their high school careers, and complete the journey they set out on months and even years ago. For the Storm, it all comes down to one goal: Finish the job.
