TRAFFIC ALERT UPDATE: Fatal Crash shuts Highway 97 south of Redmond; ODOT says to ‘expect extended delays’

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Oregon State Police confirmed to KTVZ News that one person was killed Tuesday evening when a passenger vehicle and semi-truck collided on Highway 97 south of Redmond.
The crash was reported at 5:34 p.m. near milepost 127, about five miles south of Redmond, according to initial reports.
At first, ODOT advised motorists on its TripCheck map that only the northbound lanes were closed and to "prepare to slow or move over for worker safety."
But just after 6 p.m. came word of the full closure. "Expect extended delays or use an alternate route," ODOT said.
It was the second crash in 24 hours to block Highway 97 between Bend and Redmond, causing significant traffic backups during the evening commute.
Another occurred Monday evening and stopped or slowed traffic for several hours.
