WATCH: Pope Leo Celebrates First Christmas Mass as Pontiff

VATICAN CITY (NBC News & KTVZ News) -- Pope Leo XIV presided over his first Christmas Eve mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican in Rome on Dec. 24.
The 69-year-old Chicago native is the first leader of the Roman Catholic Church to hail from the United States. He was as elected by a conclave in May 2025 after the death of Pope Francis on April 21.
