BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Thomason Auto Group in Bend is closing its doors permanently, following the death of its owner, longtime Central Oregon businessman Chris Scott Thomason.

The dealership, which operated for 10 years, announced the decision on social media, saying it was made “with heavy hearts” after Thomason’s passing. The post thanked the community for a decade of support, describing customers as “friends, neighbors and partners on the road.”

“We’re deeply grateful for the honor of serving Central Oregon,” the statement read. “The memories made here will always be part of our journey.”

Thomason, 42, died Jan. 6 while snowmobiling with friends in the Castle Peak area near Truckee, California. Authorities said he was buried in snow and killed in an avalanche.

KTVZ first reported Thomason’s death in early January.

Thomason was well-known in Central Oregon, friends told KTVZ News. Originally from Portland, he had lived in Bend for many years and loved to snowmobile, boat and mountain bike — a true outdoorsman who friends described as very active.

Thomason leaves behind his wife and their three young daughters.
