Redmond School District to gather community input on school attendance boundaries

Redmond School District

Redmond School District is hosting community listening sessions on March 16 and March 17 to collect feedback on its ongoing school attendance boundary review. The evaluation, which began in December, aims to address shifting enrollment patterns and residential growth across the district.

The review comes as Redmond continues to see enrollment growth, unlike many other districts in Oregon. With a 2.1% growth rate this year, Redmond is currently the only district among the state's 20 largest to show positive enrollment gains. Last year, the district led the state's top 25 largest districts with a 1.0% growth rate.

The district is partnering with MGT, an education consulting firm, to analyze enrollment data and develop potential boundary adjustment scenarios. These projections evaluate current student numbers alongside five- and 10-year trends. The data-driven approach is intended to manage future growth while supporting balanced school populations.

Specific projections show that Sage Elementary School is expected to reach 120% of its capacity by 2030 and 126% by 2035. Tom McCall Elementary School is projected to reach 121% capacity in 2030 and 129% by 2035. Conversely, Terrebonne Community School and Vern Patrick Elementary School are expected to remain below capacity throughout the forecast period.

Redmond School District is following several guiding principles during the review, including the prioritization of walkability and proximity to home. Officials also aim to maintain established feeder patterns, consider transportation impacts and minimize the number of students affected by any adjustments. The process additionally seeks to avoid disruptions to special programs and specific student populations.

The upcoming community listening sessions are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on both days. The first session will take place Monday, March 16, at Tom McCall Elementary School, followed by a second session Tuesday, March 17, at Sage Elementary School. Residents can find more information on the district website.

For further inquiries, the district has directed community members to contact Logan McGinnis, public information officer. McGinnis can be reached via email at logan.mcginnis@redmondschools.org.

Feedback from the listening sessions will be used to refine boundary scenarios. These final recommendations are scheduled to be presented to the superintendent and the board of directors later this spring.
