City Of Madras confronts conditions behind Madras Homeless Shelter, implements camping ordinance & clean up

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Happening now, The City of Madras staff are confronting conditions in the area behind the Madras Homeless Shelter.

The City emphasized the implementation of its camping ordinance, as well as balancing enforcement with respect, and public access and safety.

City staff are on-site today addressing conditions in the area behind the Madras Homeless Shelter.

Recent activity in this area is the result of individuals relocating from a nearby/adjacent location due to development and access needs. This is not a new or expanded camping area, but a shift in location that increased visibility.

Staff are actively implementing the City’s camping ordinance, including enforcement of time, place, and manner requirements such as removal of camps during daytime hours.

Today’s work includes cleanup of the area and proper handling and storage of personal property in accordance with City policy and state law.

The City’s approach is to balance enforcement with respect, while maintaining public safety, access to public spaces, and overall community livability.
