Plan Ahead: Cascade Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road to open for season

Deschutes County

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Cascade Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road are scheduled to open for the season on Thursday, May 7, at 8 a.m. The Deschutes County Road Department is responsible for managing these routes. The roads are opening earlier than usual this year due to favorable weather conditions.

Road crews were able to clear snow from both roads more quickly this year because of a warm winter and limited snowfall. Typically, it can take up to six weeks to complete the snow clearing process for Cascade Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road. Currently, Cascade Lakes Highway is accessible from the south to Lava Lake via S Century Drive, also known as 42 Road.

Travelers should be aware that conditions can change rapidly at higher elevations. It is always advisable to plan ahead before embarking on a trip to these areas.

Before traveling, visitors should check for updates on road conditions.
