Smith Rock eaglet “Phoenix” thriving at 24 days old

TERREBONNE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- We have good news to share with you! A young bald eagle is drawing attention at Smith Rock State Park as it continues to grow rapidly under its mother’s care.

The eaglet, named “Phoenix,” is now 24 days old and living in a nest high in a towering ponderosa pine, according to park officials. Recent observations show the bird developing quickly and appearing healthy.

Wildlife watchers say the eaglet’s mother has played a key role in its early success. She has been highly protective of the nest while also actively feeding and beginning to train her young.

That balance of protection and preparation is critical at this stage, as eaglets rely entirely on their parents for food and safety while gradually building strength.

Smith Rock visitors and local wildlife enthusiasts have been following Phoenix’s progress closely, highlighting the park’s role as an important habitat for raptors in Central Oregon.

Park officials say the eaglet is continuing to thrive and encourage visitors to observe from a distance to avoid disturbing the nest.
