Dry and above normal pattern this week

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Above normal temperatures this week along with dry conditions. There is a large area of high pressure off the coast that will not move much this week, resulting in a quiet pattern.

High temperature readings for this time of year are around the middle to upper 60s.  The forecast has the Pacific Northwest above normal through the last weekend of May. Highs will be in the low to middle 70s through Thursday, followed by a string of 80-degree days into the weekend.

There may be a few clouds overhead this week, the chance for any precipitation is off the table. The parched soil in the area is not going to get any relief this week, or possibly next week.

The Climate Prediction Center has about 90% of the Tri-Counties (Jefferson, Crook and Deschutes) in the Severe Drought Category with respect to the drought conditions. About 5% of our counties are in the Extreme Drought category, which is not good news. With the upcoming above normal pattern, coupled with the upcoming dry pattern, our drought situation will be deteriorating as we move into the summer months.

Please be careful with anything that may begin a fire, and be mindful that our fire danger risk will be getting higher and higher.

Please, Stay safe.
