Windy and mild today, rainy pattern begins overnight

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The region is dealing with gusty winds this afternoon and tonight as a cold front approaches from the northwest.  Portions of Central Oregon, including Bend and Redmond are under a Wind Advisory until 11 pm tonight as west winds will blow at around 15 - 25 mph and gust near 40 in some pockets close to the mountains. The bulk of the robust gusts will be further north, but we are still expecting to have to deal with windy conditions on this Memorial Day.

This front is bringing rain showers to Portland area today as well as the coast. This wet weather will arrive in Central Oregon after sunset today and will be the beginning of several days with at least a chance for showers. This rain is a welcomed site to our area as we have been moisture starved for quite a while.

The rainy pattern will be off and on this week with shower being the best way to define the events. The persistent wet weather will be finished by Friday and is likely to bring along some thunderstorms Thursday.

After the front passes tonight the afternoon high temperatures are only expected to reach the upper 50s Tuesday. This is about 10 degrees below our normal high for late May.  Winds are expected to relax after the frontal passage after midnight.

Tuesday afternoon will cloudy and rainy, but generally showers are expected verses heavier rain. This is good beneficial rain that is greatly needed.

Wednesday will be similar to Tuesday but will see the mercury in the thermometer rise back near 70. The rain will, once again, be off and on and on the lighter side. Keep the rain gear handy when you are out and about this week.

Thursday will be the more robust rain day of the week as the rain is going to arrive from the southeast. The showers will be rotating around the low that will be south of Central Oregon and will bring a line of rain through the region. Highs will be in the upper 70s and the atmosphere may be a bit more unstable. There is a chance for some isolated thunderstorms Thursday as the atmosphere becomes a bit more volatile. The thunderstorm chances will be monitored for intensity as we get closer to Thursday, but as of now they appear to only be garden variety thunderstorms, as opposed to anything severe or robust.

After the front clears the region, we may still see some rain Friday.   This should be the last day of the rainy pattern and we will dry out for the first weekend in June with highs near 70.
