Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend announces expansion into La Pine

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend has rebranded as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon as it expands services to La Pine, Ore. This expansion includes a new partnership with the La Pine Parks and Recreation District to strengthen youth programming in the community.

After-school programming by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon in La Pine will commence with the 2026-2027 school year, starting this September. Registration for the program is currently available.

This expansion marks a significant transition in youth programming for La Pine, as Camp Fire Central Oregon will hand off its after-school and summer programming duties in South County to BGCCO starting in fall of 2026. Camp Fire Central Oregon has provided these services to South County youth since 2024.

After-school programming by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon in La Pine will be offered at the La Pine Community Center. The program will cost $75 per week and operate Monday through Friday until 6:30 p.m. Financial aid will be available to families.

To support student access, transportation will be provided from Rosland Elementary, along with walking support from La Pine Elementary to the La Pine Community Center.

Daneille Rosenfield, Board Chair for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon, expressed enthusiasm for the new chapter in La Pine. "We are thrilled to open the doors of a Boys & Girls Club in La Pine once again," Rosenfield said. "This community has so much to offer its young people and starting this September, kids and families will have a dedicated, safe place to learn and grow after school. None of this would be possible without our partnership with La Pine Parks & Recreation. This is what community looks like, neighbors coming together to invest in our kids."

Facilities Director Wynn Malikowski for the La Pine Parks and Recreation District, also highlighted the benefits of the collaboration. "The Board and I are over the moon with this partnership," Malikowski said. He added that partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon to provide programming and youth enrichment for elementary to high school students is something every community needs. Malikowski noted that the Boys & Girls Clubs have been a leader in this category since 1860 and this partnership will "bring back the sounds of children in the community center daily and offer the parents in La Pine a low cost option to provide after school programming and enrichment, that only The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon can provide."

Kecia Kubota, CEO of Camp Fire Central Oregon, reflected on her organization's past contributions and the collaborative spirit of the transition. "We are incredibly proud of the vital programming Camp Fire has delivered to La Pine families over the last two years," Kubota said. "This transition is a beautiful example of community organizations collaborating to put kids first. While we hand off the after-school program in La Pine to BGCCO, our commitment to Central Oregon youth remains as strong as ever as we focus our energy on our thriving programs at Three Rivers School and throughout Central Oregon." Registration for Three Rivers School's after-school program opens on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Looking ahead, Boys CEO Michael Baker & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon, stated the organization's commitment to broader regional service. "The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon is committed to serving more members, more often, with deeper impact," Baker said. BGCCO hopes to expand into additional Central Oregon communities in the future.
