There’s Good News: Warm Springs students celebrate last day of school with annual powwow

WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Students, families and staff at Warm Springs K-8 Academy marked the last day of school with a celebration centered on culture, tradition and community.

The school's annual powwow brought students together to honor tribal traditions while celebrating the conclusion of another academic year. Families and community members gathered alongside staff to take part in the event, which has become a meaningful end-of-year tradition for the school.

The celebration featured dancing, drumming and opportunities for students and families to connect as the school year came to a close.

This year's powwow also included a special recognition for Cheryl Walters, an educational assistant at the school who is retiring after 18 years of service. Walters was honored for her dedication to students and her contributions to the Warm Springs K-8 Academy community.

School leaders said the annual event serves as a way to celebrate student achievements, strengthen community ties and honor the cultural traditions that are an important part of life in Warm Springs.
