Bend Fire and Rescue Responds to Two Incidents, Firefighters Concerned with Fire Danger

Bend Fire and Rescue

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend Fire & Rescue crews responded to two separate fires, with a structure fire reported west of Bend on Highway 20 near Dayton and Tweed roads and a brush fire occurring in Bend near Southwest Yates Road and Southwest Century Drive.

The first incident, a shop fully engulfed in flames, was reported on Monday shortly after 8 am, while firefighters were dispatched to the second brush fire at approximately 9:30 am while still on scene at the first incident.

The structure fire west of Bend resulted in an estimated $100,000 in structural damage and $50,000 in lost contents, making the shop a total loss, though the fire was knocked down within 40 minutes.

The second fire, a brush fire in Bend, was quickly stopped before it threatened any structures and was determined to have started from sparks caused by lawn edging equipment.

At the shop fire, crews conducted a defensive attack to protect nearby structures and equipment due to the absence of a nearby water supply, while also working to prevent the fire from spreading further into the brush. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
