Hot and dry with scattered storms in the afternoon

Today continue our warmer than normal pattern as the mercury in the thermometer will rise into the upper 80s and low 90s once again. The region is tinder dry and any fires that start will spread rapidly. Saturday around 8 pm the Coyner Fire NW of Redmond grew rapidly to 11 acres and prompted evacuations in the area. Another fire started near the Fairgrounds after the fireworks displays and quickly grew to 5 acres by 11 pm as one more fire started just west of Prineville, called the Viewpoint Fire. These fires may or may not have been the result of legal or illegal fireworks, but if you have any fireworks left over from the holiday, save them for next year. We may be wetter then.

As for the weather, we may see a few scattered showers and storms develop in the afternoon and early evening. Generally south and east of the Tri-counties in Lake, Harney, Malheur and Grant Counties. These may generate some lightning, and some gusty winds near the storms are possible.

High Temperatures today will peak around 90 so prepare for another hot one. The storms may be able to percolate a bit more in the heat, so some may become a bit robust. Currently not expected to reach Deschutes or Crook Counties, but they will be close, so stay alert for the rumble of thunder, then take cover.

Monday will be similar to Sunday with a sunny start then some clouds and storms south and east. Highs will be in the low 90s again, so stay hydrated.

Tuesday and Wednesday look to be slightly cooler, only hitting the middle to upper 80s.

Stay Safe please.
