SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – A player in Hillsboro hit a $4.2 million jackpot playing Oregon’s Game Megabucks this month. And while the winner wants to remain anonymous, the store that sold it also hit it big, and held a celebration on Wednesday.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Tanasbourne West Chevron, located at 7499 NE Imbrie Drive in Hillsboro, for the Saturday, October 10 drawing.

The 54-year old prize winner is from Hillsboro and wanted to remain anonymous.

Chevron owner Aref Zghoul said it’s the first time a jackpot prize was sold at his store.

“I was really shocked,” Zghoul said when he learned of the win from Oregon Lottery. “I thought maybe a few hundred, but when she said $4.2 million, I was shocked.”

The Chevron store has been an Oregon Lottery retailer since 2020 and earns a $42,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Zghoul said his 12 employees will each receive a bonus, with a special bonus going to Manny Martinez, the clerk who sold the ticket. Zghoul is also making donations to an Oregon-based youth charity and the King Hussein Cancer Foundation USA. The rest of the funds will go toward small upgrades at the store.

“We are very glad that it was one of our customers - and hopefully, one of our regulars,” he said.

Oregon’s Game Megabucks has some of the most favorable jackpot game odds in the world. In June, someone won a $3.2 million prize in Prineville. The jackpot resets to $1 million after someone wins.

The Oregon Lottery recommends that you sign the back of your ticket to ensure you can claim any prize. In the event of winning a jackpot, players should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Players have one year from the date of a drawing to claim their prize.

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has earned more than $17.8 billion for economic development, public schools, outdoor school, state parks, veteran services, and watershed enhancements. For more information on the Oregon Lottery visit www.oregonlottery.org.
