Deschutes Public Library Board extends search for new director

KTVZ-TV

The Deschutes Public Library Board decided last Wednesday evening to extend its search for a new library director. This decision came after the board interviewed two candidates last week on July 7 and 8.

The board is committed to finding the right leader for the district as it enters an "exciting time," according to Library Board President Ann Malkin. The board aims to ensure a suitable director is selected for the community and library staff.

KTVZ's Spencer Sacks is speaking with members of the board and the public. Sacks will have a full report tonight for KTVZ News at 10 on Fox and 11pm on NBC.

Malkin, president of the Library Board, stated, "We value the experience and enthusiasm the two candidates brought to the table. We are in an exciting time for the library district and the board is committed to making sure we make the right decision for the community and library staff. We will take a brief pause to refocus our search, with a goal of finding the right director for this vibrant and growing community."

The board will discuss appointing an interim director at its Aug. 12 board meeting. This discussion is being held as current Library Director Todd Dunkelberg is scheduled to retire on Aug. 28.

Dunkelberg has served the library system for 26 years, with the last 16 years as director.

The board will meet on Aug. 12 to discuss the appointment of an interim director. Current Library Dunkelberg will retire on Aug. 28.
