Temperatures return to normal, slight chance of showers Friday and Saturday
Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The skies have been pleasantly clear of smoke this afternoon with the potential for more smoke to arrive in the overnight hours. The dense smoke seems to be less likely, but not off the table as there are still several smoldering, contained fires. Remember, contained is not extinguished, some smoke may be present for several weeks after containment lines have been established.
The skies remain mostly sunny today with some changes on the way as we head toward the weekend. There is a chance for some showers and possibly a rogue thunderstorm possible on Friday, then again Saturday. There is still a good deal of uncertainty within the models that provide this information, but it does seem likely that a few stray showers are possible.
Thursday will be mostly sunny to start then a few clouds arrive in the afternoon. The cloud build up in the evening will be noticeable but the air is still very dry and I am not anticipating any rain showers.
Friday will see a mixture of clouds and sunshine with some isolated showers possible late in the day. There is nothing organized Friday, just some showers and possibly an isolated thunderstorm in the heat of the day. Highs Friday will be in the middle 80s, like Thursday.
Saturday is also a day where there may be a spotty shower or thunderstorm develop in the afternoon heat. The skies will be partly cloudy and the temperature readings will be in the mid-80s once again. There is nothing organized, but pop-up showers are possible, albeit very low chance.
Sunday will be slightly warmer, as the mercury reaches the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. More of the same is expected Monday ahead of some clouds and cooler air arriving on Tuesday. There is a broad brushed chance for some stray showers by the middle of next week, but again, nothing organized, but the clouds will keep temps in the low 80s.
Tonight is the peak time for us to see the Perseid Meteor Shower. It is visible for several weeks, but tonight is the peak. Since there is a "new moon" it will be a dark sky and great for seeing the spectacular shower. Go to a dark sky location for the best chance to see the meteors.
As far as the firefight goes, once again, there is great progress being made on the several wildfires in the state.
