Oregon Health Authority resumes search for permanent hospital leader

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Oregon Health Authority has announced a leadership change at Oregon State Hospital in Salem, ending Sean Murphy's trial-service period as superintendent.

Jim Diegel has been named interim superintendent effective immediately, returning to a role he previously held at the state psychiatric facility.

In a statement, the Oregon Health Authority described Oregon State Hospital as an institution that requires strong, trusted and accountable leadership to meet the needs of patients, families, employees and the public.

The agency stated that superintendents at the hospital are held to high standards to ensure the institution fulfills its mission and serves patients safely and effectively. Diegel's appointment is intended to provide continuity and stability while the search for a permanent leader takes place.

The Oregon Health Authority will resume recruitment to select a permanent superintendent for Oregon State Hospital.
