Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Announce Passing of Paiute Chief Joseph Moses

WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Paiute Chief Joseph Moses passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 27, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs announced.

Moses served three terms on the Tribal Council before becoming Paiute Chief in July 2001. In response to his passing, the Tribal Council canceled its meetings for the week and requested that flags be lowered to half-mast to mourn his passing and honor his service.

Services for Moses will begin Monday, Aug. 31, at the Agency longhouse. The schedule includes a dressing at 1:30 p.m., followed by an open denomination service, dinner at 5:30 p.m. and Washut at 7 p.m.

Burial ceremonies are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1. Activities will begin with breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. departure for Simnasho Cemetery, with a return to the Agency longhouse following the burial.
