Crook County hosts free September events for recovery and suicide prevention months

CROOK COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Crook County Health and Human Services and Rimrock Trails are hosting a series of free community events throughout September in observance of National Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The activities will lead up to a community resource fair in Prineville later this month.

The resource fair, titled “Stronger Together: Celebrating Connection, Hope, & Recovery,” is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Grizzly Mountain Pavilion at the Crook County Fairgrounds. The initiative aims to build connection, resilience and support across Crook County through collaborative community programming.

The resource fair will offer attendees access to local organizations and community support services. Scheduled features for the event include live music performed by Cheyenne West, complimentary mocktails from Lucky Star Mobile Bar and food from Corndog Co. of Central Oregon. The gathering will also include a candlelight vigil to honor and remember loved ones lost.

Katie Plumb serves as the director of Crook County Health and Human Services. Plumb highlighted the role of broad public participation in health and prevention efforts across the region. “Suicide prevention and recovery work best when a whole community is involved,” Plumb said. “This event is an opportunity to bring residents, service providers and local partners together around a shared commitment to hope and connection.”
