There’s Good News: 100+ Women Who Care Central Oregon gives $21,000 to BEAM program

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ_ Members of 100+ Women Who Care Central Oregon have collectively donated $20,500 to the BEAM Program, helping neurodivergent learners build confidence, develop self-regulation skills and rediscover the joy of learning.
BEAM will also receive an additional $500 anonymous donation through the Oregon Community Foundation, bringing the total contribution to $21,000.
“BEAM allows children to find a place where they are understood, valued and celebrated for who they are,” said Karen Buren, founder and executive director of the program. “The donation from 100+ Women Who Care is helping us build their future. This gift tells our children that they matter and that the community is standing beside them.”
Another unfortunate outcome of the Silver Rail Tragedy, is BEAM’s displacement.
“We are in search of a new home. The ability to offer meaningful support is now more important than ever,” said Buren. If you or someone you know may be able to help, please contact Buren at karen@thebeamprogram.org.
Christi Haynes, volunteer leader of 100+ Women Who Care Central Oregon, said, “Our members continue to make an impact. This is the largest amount raised we’ve raised in recent years. My heart is swelling with gratitude for their generosity. We are honored to fund an organization that supports and encourages our future.”
With nearly 200 members, 100+ Women Who Care Central Oregon meets quarterly to support local nonprofits making a difference in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties. Since 2014, the giving circle has raised $921,625 through member contributions for 55 different Central Oregon nonprofits. Members have also secured an additional $71,400 in matching grants through the generosity of the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation and anonymous donors through the Oregon Community Foundation, bringing the total raised to $992,625.
About 100+ Women Who Care Central Oregon
At each quarterly meeting, members nominate nonprofit organizations serving Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties, hear three short presentations from randomly selected organizations, and then vote to select the nonprofit that will receive their collective donation. Each member contributes $100 directly to the selected organization, and together those individual gifts make a significant impact.
The meetings also give members an opportunity to connect with one another and learn more about supporting their community through collaboration and volunteering.
The next meeting is Monday, Dec. 7, at the Council on Aging, 1036 NE Fifth Street, Bend. Networking begins at 5:15 p.m. Space is limited.
