There’s Good News: OnPoint donates $30,000 to Warm Springs, Red Cross wildfire relief

(KTVZ) -- OnPoint Community Credit Union has donated $30,000 to assist wildfire relief and recovery efforts across Oregon and Southwest Washington. The contribution comes as wildfires have burned more than 2.5 million acres across the region.

The credit union split the total contribution into $10,000 increments among three organizations providing relief: the American Red Cross, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and the GoWest Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. The funds are aimed at supporting both immediate assistance and ongoing recovery for affected communities.

Each recipient organization is directing the funds toward specific disaster relief operations. The American Red Cross is providing emergency shelter, meals and relief supplies to impacted residents. The GoWest Foundation Disaster Relief Fund offers financial assistance to credit union employees, volunteers and board members affected by natural disasters. Meanwhile, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs established a recovery fund specifically to assist community members affected by the Bench Fire.

Rob Stuart serves as president and chief executive officer of OnPoint Community Credit Union. “Wildfires have had a significant impact on communities in our region, including places where our members and employees live and work,” Stuart said. “During times like these, working together to help our neighbors is more important than ever. We are grateful for these organizations providing critical resources and proud to support their work helping those impacted by these devastating wildfires.”

The land and natural resources damaged by the fires hold long-standing significance for tribal members in the region. Edward R. Henderson is the secretary-treasurer and CEO of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. “For our people, this land is more than acres—it's the fish, the water, the foods that have sustained us for generations,” Henderson said. “These are the gifts from the Creator that we're responsible for protecting. We're grateful for OnPoint's support as we work to restore what was lost.”

OnPoint Community Credit Union was founded in 1932 and is the largest credit union headquartered in Oregon, serving more than 656,000 members. Its membership footprint covers 33 counties in Oregon and four counties in Southwest Washington. Credit union officials are encouraging community members and credit union members to make additional donations directly to the designated relief organizations.
