National Voter Registration Day: Secretary of State Tobias Read urges Oregonians to register

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read is encouraging Oregonians to register to vote or update their voter registration on Sept. 15, in recognition of National Voter Registration Day. Read announced that state residents can check the status of or complete their registration online.

Online voter services are accessible through OregonVotes.gov/Register for new applicants, while registered voters can verify their current status at OregonVotes.gov/MyVote. This aims to ensure that eligible residents are informed and prepared for the upcoming November election.

To complete an online registration, prospective voters must provide an Oregon driver license, a state identification card or the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Voter eligibility in the state is limited to U.S. citizens who reside in Oregon and are at least 16 years old. Individuals who register at age 16 or 17 must be at least 18 years old by Election Day to receive a ballot.

Read emphasized that checking or updating voter records takes minimal time while ensuring citizens are prepared for the election process.

“It takes less than two minutes to register to vote or to check your voter registration to make sure you are ready to cast your ballot this November,” Read said. “Voting is how citizens hold government and politicians accountable, it's how we select representatives at all levels of government and it's how we collectively decide the direction for our state and our nation. Your vote is your power. Use it.”
