Plenty of sunshine and mild weather this week

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Dry and mild pattern to set up for the first full week of Autumn. Plenty of sunshine and light winds will define the week as the area will be looking at temperatures in the 70s to close out the month of September.

Today will be slightly warmer as we start a run of above normal temperatures.  Normal highs are around 71 in Central Oregon, so an afternoon measurement of 75 will be a few degrees over the normal high.  There may be a few clouds arrive in Jefferson County as a weak disturbance moves through Washington, but overall, we should see a good deal of sunshine.

The last day of September will go out with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the middle 70s. Quiet once again as the winds arrive from the west. There will be the establishment of an off shore ridge that will maintain the dry and clear pattern in place for a few more days.

High pressure off the coast at the surface is going to stay put through the rest of the week. October starts off with a slightly warmer pattern, but not much, than what we have forecast for Wednesday. Mostly sunny skies and highs in the middle to upper 70s once again.

Friday will keep the string of dry and mild conditions in place with little change in the overall pattern. Highs will approach the 80-degree mark and as we move through the weekend, 80s will be obtained both Saturday and Sunday.

The summer-like pattern returns for several days as the region remains dry and warm due to another ridge that expands north into the region.

Monday will be another 80-degree day as little changes in the area. Tuesday and Wednesday also stay dry and warm.

The tropics continue to stay active in the Pacific as Polo made landfall on the west coast of the California Baja Peninsula of Mexico as at strong category 2 hurricane with winds at 110 mph at 11pm Monday night.  He kicked out into the Gulf of California and made a second landfall in Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane twelve hours later at 11am. Moving NE at 17 mph causing significant damage across the western coast of Sonora Mexico.

Rachel is developing as a strong tropical storm just west of Mexico and is expected to travel northwest parallel to the Mexican coast. Nolo is moving west away from Hawaii but another tropical depression has developed in the east central equatorial Pacific and may become a tropical storm before the end of the day.

The remnants of Polo are expected to impact New Mexico, west Texas and eastern Arizona today and tonight with heavy flooding and flash flooding.
