What does democracy mean to you? Central Oregonians share their perspectives

KTVZ

Bend, Ore. (KTVZ) — Democracy is a word often heard during election season, but what does it actually mean to the people who live and work in Central Oregon?

As elections bring conversations about leadership, representation and the future of communities into focus, KTVZ is taking a closer look at what democracy means beyond the ballot box.

For some, democracy may represent the freedom to express their opinions or participate in decisions that affect their communities and beyond. For others, it may bring to mind the importance of having a voice, holding elected leaders accountable or ensuring future generations have the same opportunities.

But democracy can mean different things to different people, shaped by their experiences, values and perspectives.

KTVZ is asking Central Oregonians a simple question: “What does democracy mean to you?”

The goal is to hear directly from community members about what democracy means in their everyday lives, why it matters to them and what they hope it represents for future generations.

Watch KTVZ News at six for their perspectives and a closer look at a question that extends well beyond any single election.
