Bend had a warmer, drier than normal April

 PENDLETON, Ore. (KTVZ) -- This was not a normal April, in many ways, but when it comes to the weather, it was also warmer and drier than normal in Bend, according to data released Friday by the National Weather Service.

Bend's average temperature was 46.4 degrees, which was 2.8 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 60.1 degrees, which was 3.4 degrees above normal (the 30-year average).

The city's highest temperature was 76 degrees on the 29th.

Low temperatures averaged 32.6 degrees, which was 2.2 degrees above normal. The lowest was 21 degrees, on the 4th.

 There were 16 days with a low temperature below 32 degrees.

 Bend's precipitation totaled 0.41 inches during April, which was 0.37 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation - at least .01 inch - was received on three days, with the heaviest, 0.25 inches, reported on the 6th.

Precipitation this year has reached 3.00 inches, which is 1.13 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Bend has been 4.40 inches, which is 3.92 inches below normal.

The outlook for May from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for Bend rise from 61 degrees at the start of May to 68 degrees at the end of the month. Normal lows rise from 33 degrees to 40 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.89 inches.

Prineville also was slightly warmer than normal in April, with an an average temperature of 48.2 degrees, 1.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation totaled 0.60 inches during April, .27 inches below normal.
