Bend PD: Man threatened neighbors with machete, arrested after standoff
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A southeast Bend resident armed with a machete and threatening neighbors ended a standoff and surrendered to police early Monday after 90 minutes of negotiations and the call-out of the police SWAT team, officers said.
Bend police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 11 p.m. to the Ariel South Apartments in the 1700 block of Southeast Tempest Drive on a report of a man later identified as Michael Dean Fuller II, 45, armed with a machete and making threats to neighbors, Sgt. Tom Pine said.
Officers arrived to find Fuller had returned to his own apartment, Pine said. He came out to the apartment’s balcony and interacted with officers for the next 90 minutes.
During that time, “Fuller made statements that led officers to believe he would continue to pose a threat to the community,” Pine said in a news release.
As a result, members of the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT) were deployed to the apartments.
After continued negotiations, Fuller came out of the apartment and was taken into custody without any injuries or further incidents, the sergeant said.
A search warrant was executed at the apartment, Pine said, and officers recovered the machete allegedly used to threaten neighbors.
Members of the Deschutes Mobile Crisis Team (MCAT) helped in assessing Fuller and he later was taken to the St. Charles Bend Emergency Department,
He faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree burglary, two counts of menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct.
