Hundreds Hit Slopes For Rare Fourth Weekend

KTVZ

It was all fun in the sun on the slopes of Mount Bachelor this weekend, as the mountain opened for summer operations.

There was little snow but lots of smiles, and it’s a popular tourist attraction every year. The Pine Marten Lodge is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day through Labor Day.

Folks can take the lift up to go hiking, or to just grab lunch at Scappolo’s Bistro or Pinnacles Caf.

The lodge also offers sunset dinners from 5-8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The sun was out on Sunday and some skiers, boarders and hikers were sporting shorts and t-shirts.

Some of them told us the best part about Bachelor during the holiday weekend — celebrating our independence, mountain style.

“My wife and I have been hiking Mt. Bachelor in July for the past few years as a way to kind of celebrate our freedom,” said James Sites of Bend. “We were just really psyched that they were going to open the lifts for skiing this year, and we just cant wait to get on the lifts and have some fun.”

“I grew up skiing on Mt. Bachelor, so I love it here,” said Crissy Kindler of Portland. “I started at 2 years old and went to ski camps on Mt. Hood, so it’s great being up here in the summer and seeing everyone smile, and it’s just a great experience.”

The lift ride up costs adults $16 during the day and $13 for the sunset dinners.

Don’t forget, there’s also skiing this year on the Fourth itself, and while you’re up there for the holiday, you can also catch the 12th annual Firecracker Ride. It’s 65 miles all the way to Prineville and starts at 8 a.m.
