Sagebrush Holds 1st Community Scavenger Hunt

What do get when you combine The Amazing Race and Fear Factor? It’s the first annual Sagebrush Community Challenge, and it’s done Central Oregon-style

Hundreds grabbed their most trusted, rowdy and savvy friends and headed downtown Saturday morning for the new event to kick off the newly expanded Sagebrush event, which has built from an all-star golf and cuisine event into one that will benefit more than 100 nonprofits around the High Desert.

Contestants mapped out their course with a few surprises along the way — including rolling in mud, eating suspicious, but safe food and doing crazy antics.

Some even decked out in red capes and crowns to tackle the course. And it was all for the sake of charity.

“It’s actually really cool to see the amount of people coming out –, to see them all scatter at the cannon was a really neat feeling,” said course designer Amanda Rose. “To know that they are all really getting into it and plotting their course. And it’s going to be fun to see where they go and what they do. So I’ve got a great feeling, though — we are all really energized by it.”

Saturday’s race proceeds went to the Sagebrush Match Fund, which will benefit more than 100 local charities making it one of the biggest in town.
