BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Leaders from Oregon's Democratic and Republican parties offered contrasting views following an hour-long gubernatorial debate held in the KTVZ studio between Governor Tina Kotek and Republican challenger Christine Drazan.

Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz and Oregon Republican Party Chairwoman Connie Whelchel both stated that the broadcast highlighted a clear choice for voters. Both party leaders encouraged Oregonians who missed the event to review the debate and compare the candidates' plans.

Nathan Soltz, chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon, pointed to Kotek's achievements and key priorities for a second term in office.

“Governor Kotek has continued to lay out a very clear path forward that includes expanded access to child care, making health care more affordable, continuing to strengthen our schools and just build an Oregon that really works for all Oregonians all across our state,” Soltz said.

Oregon Republican Party Whelchel argued that Drazan would bring a distinct approach to addressing issues across the state.

“We can do better in Oregon, but it will require a change in leadership and Drazan knows what to do there,” Whelchel said. “There are other ways besides what Kotek's been doing, which clearly has not been working. It is time for change, way past time for a change in Oregon.”
