Gone Fishin’: CAST For Kids Reels In Fun

The 14th annual CAST For Kids fishing event had everyone reeling in a good time at the Prineville Reservoir on Sunday.

The non-profit organization known as “Catch A Special Thrill” allowed children with a wide range of disabilities to have the opportunity to hit the waters and land some fish.

Volunteers from the Central Oregon Bass Club provided fishing boats and a little expertise to assist the novice anglers.

The CAST crew, along with the federal Bureau of Reclamation and Oregon State Parks, hosted a barbecue after the fishing.

All of the equipment, food and awards were donated by a number of businesses from Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties.

And all of the organizers volunteered for the event, working to make a memorable fishing trip for children.

“When you see the kids come back and they have fish in their hands, big smiles on their faces, it’s a successful day,” said Dale Barrett, regional director for CAST. ” I think this is one of the unique events in our community, because it’s for special needs kids, and that makes it very special and very unique.”

Dozens of children ages 7-16 received fishing gear, a free T-shirt and a hat for their adventure.
