Matt McDonald
Anchor/Reporter, NewsChannel 21 at Sunrise
Matt McDonald joins the NewsChannel 21 team as co-anchor of the Sunrise show, which can be seen weekdays on NBC from 5:00 to 7:00 AM and on Fox from 7:00 to 9:00 AM.
After the studio lights go off, you’ll often find Matt on the streets, reporting on the stories that define Central Oregon.
A 1999 graduate of Oregon State University’s Civil Engineering program (Cum Laude), Matt’s career took a turn in 2006 when he chose to pursue a passion for journalism. In his first year reporting, he won the Society of Professional Journalist’s Robert Chandler Award for the best new reporter in Oregon and S.W. Washington.
Having lived in Bend for nine years before joining NewsChannel 21, three of those in journalism as an anchor and reporter, he knows the area well, covering memorable stories on a wide range of subjects from the Rooster Rock Fire to a man using craigslist.com to lure victims to his house for sexual misconduct.
In his free time, a lifelong love of athletics sends Matt out into all that Central Oregon has to offer.
From hiking mountain trails, to an attempt to finally learn to skate ski in preparation for the Pole Pedal Paddle, there’s only one thing that consistently slows Matt down ? a beautiful baby girl. In 2009, Matt and his wife Brenda welcomed Macy Rose McDonald to this world. She remains his No. 1 reason to smile on a daily basis.
