Knocking Down Pins, Raising Funds for Good Cause

Bowling teams came out in full swing to the Sun Mountain Fun Center in Bend Saturday to raise money for a good cause. The 13th annual Bowl for Kids Sake helped raise funds for the non-profit organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon.

The event invites the community to form teams of four to six people of friends, family or co-workers.

If you were there, you may have seen some familiar faces.

NewsChannel 21 at Sunrise Anchor Matt McDonald and of course, Shanna Mendiola, our weekend weather anchor were among several KTVZ employees taking part, with News Director Lee Anderson (a BBBSCO board member) serving as lively emcee.

Organizers were happy with Saturday’s turnout.

“I have children that come into my office and talk to me about what their ‘Bigs’ mean to them, and-or why they would like a big brother, big sister, said event coordinator Amanda Gow. “And to see their faces light up, and the happiness it brings them, that’s why this event means so much to me. Because I get to make that happen for more children.”

This year, more than $20,000 was raised through the event, topping last year’s tally

Big Brothers, Big Sisters is a program of J Bar J Youth Services, and its goal is “to facilitate positive change in youth” by pairing them up with adult mentors to share life’s moments, large and small.
