Brushfire encircled below Madras trestle

KTVZ

Jefferson County firefighters corralled a brushfire that broke out below a train trestle off Canyon Drive in Madras Monday afternoon.

Interim Jefferson County Fire Chief Doug Dawson said the blaze was reported around 3:30 p.m. just off Canyon Drive, below the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway train trestle that runs through town.

Mutual-aid fire crews were requested from Crooked River Ranch, but Dawson said the blaze, of as-yet undetermined size, was not threatening homes or structures. It was contained in less than 90 minutes, he said, but crews were busy in mop-stage.

“It sounds like we’re getting the upper hand,” Dawson said about an hour after the fire was reported. “At last report, it had slowed down, and we pretty much got it circled. It’s kicking up quite a bit of smoke.”

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
