Deschutes United Way sets funding plan

The United Way of Deschutes County announced Friday a funding plan for 2012?13 that invests $927,019 in a range of essential community services provided by local non?profit agencies.

The total fund disposition package includes $585,171 in allocations, grants, and donor designations to 27 local social service agencies that partner with United Way of Deschutes County, $89,700 in direct services, and $252,148 in contributions earmarked by donors to a host of other agencies.

Focusing on four key areas of community need the Community Impact Committee directed more than $226,000 to United Way partner agencies that provide food, shelter and other basic need services.

Approximately $135,000 is directed to programs that address issues of child and family violence. More than $224,000 will go to programs for healthy development of children and youth.

Review Committee Chairman, Paul Morton said, “Our volunteers had to make some rather tough decisions in order to direct funding to agencies and programs that are most directly responding to the way our community has changed over the last few years, as is evident by the strong focus on funding basic needs. “
