Thomas Bray could spend nearly 10 years behind bars, and that’s if he’s convicted of even just one of the Measure 11 crimes he’s charged with.

The 38-year-old ex-COCC anatomy teacher faces 11 misdemeanor and felony counts of sex abuse, stemming from two different women accusing him of beating and raping them.

NewsChannel 21 will not name the alleged victims in this case, and cameras are not allowed in the courtroom.

The 25-year-old woman who testified Thursday was the first to come forward, saying Bray attacked her on February 25th, 2011.

While on the stand, the woman testified her memory was not good of what happened in the days and months after her alleged attack. She said she was traumatized and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The woman has filed a $2 million civil lawsuit which is set to go to trial in August. Prosecutors in the case asked if she thought that amount of money was fair
and she told them, ‘No.’

“I don’t know how you could put a value on human life,” the woman replied. “The life I had before Mr. Bray raped me is gone. No amount of money in the world can take away pain.”

When asked why she filed a civil suit, the woman told them she was worried the criminal case against Bray would not go through.

“I fully believe I would not get justice for the violent crimes against me,” the woman said.

Deschutes County Circuit Judge Stephen Tiktin who heard from the nurse who preformed an exam on the woman at St. Charles Medical Center-Bend. She told the judge the case was “memorable,” adding that the woman had bruises on her body, burst blood vessels in her eyes and red marks around her neck.

Prosecutors asked the nurse if the injuries were consistent with the woman’s story and she said, ‘Yes.’

The trial picks back up Friday morning at 9 a.m.
