Teen unhurt in rollover crash SE of Prineville

A teen driver escaped injury when the car he was driving left a curve on Juniper Canyon Road southeast of Prineville, overturned and crashed through a barbed wire fence, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and Crook County Fire and Rescue personnel responded around 11:40 p.m. to the reported crash on Juniper Canyon Road, about a quarter-mile south of Paulina Highway, said Sgt. Travis Jurgens.

Deputies arrived and found a white 2000 Nissan Sentra off the east side of the road, on its top in a field, Jurgens said.

The male juvenile driver, whom he did not identify, was unhurt and refused transport to the hospital. He was wearing his seat belt, Jurgens said, and alone in the car.

Jurgens said the teen was heading south on Juniper Canyon Road and lost control while trying to negotiate a corner. It left the road, rolled and crashed through the barbed wire fence, damaging about 60 feet of the fence, Jurgens said.

“It was determined that speed and fatigue were contributing factors in the crash,” Jurgens wrote, adding that no citations were issued.
